The Flying Hammerlock Video Review #63: Delirious Vs. Daniels

IWC Super Indy Champion Delirious (w/Daizee Haze) vs. "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels, IWC Uncaged Fury, Court Time Sports Center, Elizabeth, PA, July 7, 2006.

Delirious defeated Troy Lords to win the vacant title in the final of the Super Indy V tournament on April 15th and this was his second defense.  Back in 2002, Super HENTAI defeated Daniels to win the inaugural Super Indy Title tournament and Daniels had lost matches for the title to AJ Styles in 2004 and "Fabulous" John McChesney in 2005.   This was Daniels' last-ever match for the title. At this time, Daniels was in his fifth overall reign as NWA World Tag Team Champion and his first with his partner AJ Styles.  This is the first singles match between Delirious and Daniels.   (Triple X [Daniels and Elix Skipper] defeated Delirious and Matt Sydal [Evan Bourne] on the June 15th, 2003 [taped June 11th] episode of NWA TNA Xplosion.)

Delirious, of course, goes nuts at the bell, rolling around and screaming gibberish.  He gets in Daniels' face and, among his usual ramblings, claims that AJ Styles, Low Ki and maybe someone else had told him that Daniels had been talking all kinds of trash about him and Daniels denied that he ever said what Delirious claims those people told him he said.   They go back and forth for a bit, eventually leading to Daniels punching Delirious to start the match.  Daniels whips Delirious to the ropes and Delirious slides under the bottom rope to the floor.  Delirious runs around the ring, including throwing a chair at the ring.  Delirious gets back in the ring only to exit it immediately after.   Delirious grabs someone's hat and throws it into the ring.  Daniels puts it on the regular way, then turns it around and then turns it around again while posing.   Delirious consults with Daizee on the floor and throws some signs around.  Delirious gets back in the ring and it looks like he and Daniels are going to lock up but nothing doing.   Delirious shoves referee Bryce Remsburg who is trying to get the match going.  Finally they tie up and Daniels grabs a side headlock and gets a headlock takedown.   Daniels brings Delirious up by the head and Delirious looks to be trying to pull Daniels' hair but Daniels is bald so all he is doing is rubbing the top of Daniels' head.   Daniels gets another headlock takedown.   Back to their feet with Daniels holding onto the headlock.   He tries to whip Delirious of the hold but Delirious stops it.  Delirious whips Daniels into the ropes and Daniels comes off with a shoulderblock.  Daniels runs off the ropes and Delirious drops down and they do the criss-cross spot.  Daniels looks to come off the ropes and Delirious teases a leapfrog.   Daniels goes to run off another set of ropes and Delirious again teases the leapfrog.  Delirious and Daniels argue over who should drop down.  Daniels runs off the ropes and Delirious again teases the leapfrog.   Much like in his match with El Generico, Delirious starts describing how the criss-cross spot works.   Daniels comes off the ropes and hits a dropkick, negating Delirious' analysis of the spot.  Daniels whips Delirious to the ropes and Delirious slides under the ropes out to the floor.  Delirious runs around the ring and slides back in and ducks Daniels' elbow and comes off the ropes and Daniels hits him with a leg lariat.   Daniels goes for the pin and gets a 1 count.  Daniels slows things down with a chinlock.  Delirious gets to his feet, escapes the hold, exits the ring and slides under the ring.   Daizee gets on the apron and both Daniels and Bryce tell her to get off the apron as Delirious comes in from the other side.   Delirious nails Daniels from the back as Daizee steps down from the apron.  Delirious stomps Daniels and applies a Camel Clutch.   Delirious releases the hold and uses one of the tassels from his mask to choke out Daniels.   Delirious releases the choke and hits Daniels with a belly to back suplex.   Delirious covers and gets 2.   Delirious goes back to the chokehold and chokes Daniels with the middle rope.  Bryce gets in Delirious' face about his tactics.  Delirious goes back to Daniels and starts stomping him.   Delirious pulls off his elbow pad and throws it at Daniels.   Delirious goes after Daniels' mouth but releases the hold when Bryce starts to count.  Daniels gets two shots in to Delirious' midsection but Delirious clubs Daniels' back.   Delirious gets behind Daniels and snapmares him.   Delirious sends Daniels face first into the turnbuckle and chops him.  Delirious licks his own hand and gives Daniels a facewash.   Delirious headbutts Daniels.  Daniels, still in the corner, comes back with some boots to Delirious' midsection.   Daniels gets in some shots but Delirious stops him with a shot of his own.  Delirious goes to the eyes.  Delirious walks around the ring and has words with some of the ringside fans before going back to Daniels.  Daniels gets in some shots but again Delirious stops him with a second headbutt.   Delirious gets in four knees to Daniels' midsection and heads to the corner.   Delirious climbs up and jumps off the top but misses Daniels.   Delirious runs at Daniels but Daniels catches him and hits him with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker.   Then a second one.   Daniels follows that with an STO.  Both guys are down and Bryce starts the count.  Daniels gets up first and meets Delirious with a hard forearm and a clothesline.  Then two more clotheslines.   Daniels whips Delirious into the ropes and hits him with a back body drop.  Daniels whips Delirious into the ropes again and catches him with a Blue Thunder Bomb.  It gets 2.  Daniels powers Delirious into the corner, climbs up to the second turnbuckle and starts the ten punches.  Daniels imitates Delirious' speech patterns.   Daniels whips Delirious into another corner and charges in but Delirious stops him with a boot to the face.   Delirious grabs Daniels and applies the Cobra Stretch but Daniels gets his feet on the ropes to break the hold.   Both guys up and Delirious charges at Daniels with a clothesline.  Delirious goes for a slam but Daniels turns it into a small package for 2.   Daniels gives Delirious a Standing Uranage.   Daniels points to the corner and jumps to the second turnbuckle, then to the top for the Best Moonsault Ever.   Daniels hooks the leg for the pin but Daizee is on the apron again to distract Bryce.   Daniels gets in Daizee's face as Delirious is recovering.    Daniels grabs Daizee as Delirious runs over to save her but Daniels moves out of the way and Delirious crashes into Daizee, knocking her off the apron.   Daniels gets a schoolboy rollup for 2.   Delirious is against the ropes and Daniels punches him a few times and whips Delirious across but Delirious reverses it.  Daizee trips Daniels from the floor, enabling Delirious to get a small package for the pin.   ***1/2.

Very entertaining match, a good combination of comedy and technical wrestling.  Recommended and you can watch it here.
