The Flying Hammerlock Video Review #57: Glacier Vs. Mortis

Glacier vs. Mortis (Kanyon) (w/James Vandenberg [James "The Sinister Minister" Mitchell]), WCW Worldwide, Universal Studios, Orlando, FL, December 14, 1997 (air date; taping date unknown.) 

The original Glacier vs. Mortis feud was part of a storyline called Blood Runs Cold, with gimmicks derived from the Mortal Kombat video game series.   Glacier was based on Sub-Zero, Mortis was a combination of Scorpion and Reptile and Wrath was based on Shao Khan.   At some point, Mortis, Wrath and Vandenberg stole a helmet Glacier had supposedly won in a martial arts tournament, and Mortis had to wear a mask because his face had supposedly been damaged in pit fighting in Taipei.  Wrath and Mortis defeated Glacier and Ernest "The Cat" Miller at WCW Bash at the Beach 1997 to win the feud.   Mortis would later drop the mask and become Kanyon.
 

Glacier gets his usual elaborate and expensive entrance.   Vandenberg gets in Glacier's face and Glacier scares him out of the ring and Mortis attacks to start the match.  Mortis and Glacier trade forearms and chops in the corner until Mortis gets control.   Mortis repeatedly kicks Glacier in the corner.  Mortis whips Glacier into the opposite corner and when Glacier staggers out Mortis hits him with a Rocker Dropper.  It gets 2.  Mortis grabs Glacier and sends him face first into a top turnbuckle.  Mortis gives Glacier a shot and whips him into the ropes.  Mortis tries for a hiptoss but Glacier blocks it and hits one of his own.  Glacier hits a Roundhouse Kick for 2.  Mortis goes to a corner and Glacier follows but Mortis catches him with a shot to the midsection.  Mortis snapmares Glacier and brings him up to his knees.   Mortis sits on Glacier's neck and drops him with a facebuster.   It gets 2.  Mortis gives Glacier a fireman's carry slam.   Glacier is down and Mortis goes out to the apron and climbs up top.  Mortis comes off but Glacier meets him with a boot to the face.  Vandenberg gets on the apron and Mortis turns to him and Glacier kicks Mortis and hits the Cryonic Kick, his finisher, on Vandenberg.   Mortis responds to that attack on his manager with a Northern Lights Suplex for 2.  Vandenberg is still down on the floor.  Mortis whips Glacier into the ropes and catches Glacier and goes for something but Glacier escapes and pushes Mortis into the ropes and goes for an O'Connor Roll but no luck.  Mortis turns around and Glacier hits the Cryonic Kick for the pin.  ***
