The Flying Hammerlock Video Review #55: The Prototype Vs. C.W. Anderson
The Prototype vs. "The Enforcer" C.W. Anderson (w/The Big Schwag), UPW When Worlds Collide, Galaxy Theatre, Santa Ana, CA, March 14, 2001
Cena was a little over a year into his career here. This was Anderson's UPW debut and the only match he'd ever have there. The commentary team is regular UPW commentator Doc Marllee and former ECW wrestler Nova.
They tie up and break in the middle. C.W. says something and they tie up again. C.W. grabs Prototype's arm and goes to work with an arm wringer. Prototype counters with an arm wringer of his own. They grapple and C.W. bends Prototype's arm behind his head in a top wristlock. Prototype escapes and turns it into a hammerlock. C.W. elbows out and tries to take over but Prototype powers him into the corner. Prototype charges in but C.W. knees him in the midsection to stop him. C.W. chops him. C.W. poses and Prototype forces him into the corner and takes over with forearms and chops. Prototype whips Anderson into the opposite corner and charges in but C.W. gets a boot up but Prototype catches it. Prototype kicks C.W.'s leg. Prototype gets C.W.'s arm and chops him. Prototype comes off the ropes with a clothesline. Prototype comes off the ropes with a flying shoulderblock. He covers and gets 2. Anderson tries a wild swing but misses. Prototype grabs him and forces him into the ropes looking for a rollup but Anderson blocks it. Anderson comes back with a superkick. Then a flying armbreaker, in the classic Anderson tradition of taking apart a body part. (Chris "C.W. Anderson" Wright is of no relation to any of the wrestling Andersons before him, for the record.) C.W. goes right back to the arm. C.W. whips Prototype out of the corner into the opposite corner and charges in but Prototype kips up to avoid him. Prototype hits a powerslam for 2. Anderson knocks Prototype down with a big punch. Anderson covers and gets 2. Prototype is face down and Anderson applies a hammerlock and stomps away on the arm. Schwag, the top heel manager, distracts the referee as Anderson brings a chair into the ring. He sets up the chair in between the top and second turnbuckles in the corner. C.W. brings Prototype up, applies a hammerlock and sends him shoulder first into the chair. C.W. applies an upside down facelock and uses his elbow to drive the arm down. It gets 2. C.W. sits down on Prototype's back and applies an armbar. C.W. gets up, grabs the chair and sets it up in the usual position in the ring. C.W. brings Prototype up and goes to whip Prototype but Prototype counters but Anderson counters that with a sleeper. Prototype counters and drops Anderson groin first on the back of the chair. Both guys are down and the referee gets the chair out of the ring. Both guys get up to their knees and are trading shots. They get to their feet and continue trading punches and Prototype comes back with a clothesline. Another clothesline. Then a dropkick. Prototype whips Anderson into the ropes and catches him and hits a side slam. It gets 2. Both guys are up, and Prototype gets a headlock and is going for something but Anderson counters it into some move I don't recognize. It gets 2. C.W. goes for a slam but Prototype escapes and lifts C.W. and hits an EMERALD FLOWSION! It gets 2! Prototype whips C.W. into the ropes and lowers his head for a back body drop but C.W. stops it. C.W. whips Prototype into the ropes and hits the Spinebuster. It gets 2! C.W. tries to whip Prototype but Prototype reverses it and hits the Protobomb for the pin! ***1/2.
Very good match. Cena pulling out Mitsuharu Misawa's (RIP) Emerald Flowsion was impressive. Recommended and you can watch it here.
