The Flying Hammerlock Video Review #52: Guerrero Vs. Crazy

This review is dedicated to the memory of Eddie Guerrero.  R.I.P.

Tournament Final, IWA (Puerto Rico) Intercontinental Heavyweight Title (vacant): Eddie Guerrero vs. "The Insane Luchador" Super Crazy, ROH The Era of Honor Begins, Murphy Recreation Center, Philadelphia, PA, February 23, 2002.

This was the second-to-last match on Ring of Honor's debut show.   Eddie had done a shoot interview where he said that Super Crazy was one guy he wanted to wrestle.   Eddie did defeat Super Crazy twice in IWA, making this their lone match on the mainland.   Eddie would return to WWE in April.

The crowd is loud for Eddie.   Super Crazy offers a handshake and Eddie slaps him in the face.   Crazy responds with a shot to the face of his own.  They tie up and Eddie snapmares Crazy.   Eddie rakes Crazy's eyes with his boot.  Eddie stomps Crazy and whips him into the ropes and hits him with a back elbow.  Eddie grabs Crazy and hits a vertical suplex for 2.   Eddie gets a headlock takeover.  Crazy counters with a headscissors but Eddie escapes it.  Eddie gets another headlock takedown and Crazy again counters with a headscissors.  A third headlock takedown.  Crazy gets to his feet, still in the headlock, and hits a belly to back suplex.  Both guys get to their feet and Crazy punches Eddie.  Again, knocking Eddie to the mat.  Eddie gets up and blocks Crazy's punch and hits a few of his own, plus an uppercut.  Eddie hits a belly to back suplex.   Eddie covers and gets 2.  Eddie slows things down with a chinlock.  Crazy gets to his feet and backs Eddie into the ropes.   Crazy whips Eddie into the ropes and Eddie comes off with a shoulderblock.  Eddie runs off the ropes, they do the criss-cross, Crazy leapfrogs Eddie and catches him with a hiptoss.  They do a bit of chain wrestling and Crazy catches Eddie with a lucha-style armdrag.   Then another armdrag.  Eddie is in the corner and Crazy charges in and goes up and over and shoulderblocks Eddie in the midsection.  Crazy climbs up, dives off and gives Eddie an armdrag from the top rope.  Eddie is sitting in the corner and Crazy pulls him up and does the ten punches with the crowd counting along in Spanish.  Eddie staggers out of the corner, falls down and rolls out to the floor.  Super Crazy jumps over the ropes onto the apron but Eddie pulls his legs out from under him.  They are standing out on the floor and Eddie drags Crazy to another side of the ring and punches away at him.  Eddie then sends Crazy face first into the ring post.   Eddie gives Crazy a Brainbuster on the concrete floor!  (No pretty blue mats here.)  Eddie rolls Crazy into the ring, climbs up on the apron and hits a slingshot somersault senton.   It gets 2.  Eddie picks up Crazy and hits a Blockbuster Suplex.   Eddie covers and gets 2.  Eddie gets a ground Abdominal Stretch.  Eddie releases the hold and stomps Crazy and gives him a dropkick to the face.  It gets 2.  Both guys up, Eddie chops Crazy and whips him into the ropes and Crazy ducks Eddie's clothesline and whips Eddie into the ropes.   Eddie comes off with a sunset flip but Crazy rolls out of it.  Crazy rolls over Eddie and gives him a dropkick to the back.  Crazy slams Eddie and climbs to the second rope and hits a Moonsault.   It gets 2.  Crazy climbs up and hits a missile dropkick.   It gets 2.  Crazy climbs up and sits down on the top turnbuckle but Eddie stops whatever he wanted to do.  Eddie climbs up and hits a huracanrana.   It gets 2.  Eddie tries to whip Crazy into the ropes but Crazy reverses it.  Crazy goes for a kick but Eddie ducks under it but Crazy hits him with a leg lariat.  It gets 2.  Crazy gets Eddie up for a possible suplex but Eddie escapes and knees Crazy and power bombs him.  It gets 2.  Eddie whips Crazy into the ropes and catches him with a Quebrada con hilo (tilt-a-whirl backbreaker.)  Eddie gives Crazy two Brainbusters.  Eddie climbs up and goes for a Swanton but Crazy moves out of the way.  Eddie grabs Crazy and goes for something but Crazy turns it into a small package for the pin and the title at 10:42! ****

Really, really good match.   Recommended and you can see it here.
