This review is dedicated to the memory of Gertrude Angelle "Luna" Vachon.   R.I.P.

Gangrel vs. The Hungarian Barbarian, PXW, PXW Arena, Colmar, PA, June 23, 2002

Pro Xcitement Wrestling was a Reading, Pennsylvania indie that ran from 2002-2012.   The Hungarian Barbarian wrestled almost exclusively in Pennsylvania from 1997 until he retired in 2009.   This was Gangrel's only match for PXW and was the main event.  The commentary team is Carolina Jim and The Hungarian Barbarian's manager "Dirty Deeds" Darren Wyse, which does come into play during the match.

They tie up in the middle and Hungarian Barbarian pushes Gangrel down to the mat.  They circle each other and tie up and HB pushes Gangrel down again.  They tie up a third time and HB powers Gangrel into the corner.  They break but HB goes for a clothesline in the corner but Gangrel gets out of the way.  Gangrel takes over with a series of right hands.  HB whips Gangrel into the opposite corner and charges in but Gangrel gets out of the way and HB crashes into the corner.  Gangrel goes for a schoolboy rollup but only gets 2.  Gangrel kicks HB twice while HB is face down, turns him over and stomps him.  Gangrel runs off the ropes and hits a corkscrew elbow.   It gets 2.  Gangrel hits some big right hands, runs off the ropes, ducks HB's clothesline but HB connects with a big boot.  HB takes over with some stomps to the back and chokes Gangrel on the bottom rope.  HB punches and kicks and chops Gangrel.   HB hits a bulldog.  Gangrel is face up on the mat and HB chokes him, breaking before the five count.  Gangrel gets up and throws some punches but HB rakes his eyes.  Gangrel is in the corner and HB repeatedly kicks him in the midsection.  HB whips Gangrel off the ropes and clotheslines him on the way back.  Gangrel staggers up and comes back with punches.  HB whips Gangrel into the corner and hits him with an overhead belly to belly suplex.   Gangrel retreats to the corner and HB follows him in and chokes Gangrel with his boot.  Gangrel gets up and comes back with punches and forearms but HB low-blows him.  Back up, HB rakes Gangrel's eyes and hits him with a mule kick.  Another mule kick.  HB punches Gangrel and whips him into the corner.  Gangrel comes out of the corner and HB goes for a slam but Gangrel escapes and accidentally knocks down the referee and looks shocked about having done so.  Gangrel hits the Impaler and turns HB over for the pin but the referee isn't there to count it.   Darren Wyse leaves the commentators' table and pulls out the referee and attacks Gangrel but LUNA VACHON comes out and attacks Wyse.  She chokes Wyse, sends him out to the floor, rams him into a ring post and drags him to the back.   Back in the ring, Gangrel goes for a cross-corner whip but HB reverses it.  Gangrel connects with a boot but HB powerslams Gangrel.  HB whips Gangrel into the ropes but Gangrel comes back with a big right hand.   HB charges but Gangrel drops down and pulls down the top rope sending HB to the floor.   Gangrel goes out and goes to whip HB but HB reverses it and sends Gangrel into the ring post.  HB gets back into the ring first and meets Gangrel when he tries to enter.   HB whips Gangrel into the ropes but Gangrel ducks HB's big boot.  Gangrel grabs HB and hits the Impaler for the pin!  ***1/2.

I always liked this match ever since I first watched it.  Recommended and you can watch it here.
