The Flying Hammerlock Video Review #46: Dragon Vs. Joe

Samoa Joe vs. Super Dragon, JAPW Halloween Hell 2004, Rahway Rec Center, Rahway, NJ, October 30, 2004

Jersey All Pro Wrestling was founded by Fat Frank (RIP) and he ran it from 1997 until his death in 2015, at which point Jeff Shapiro took over until the promotion closed in 2018.   Joe and Dragon had previous history from the Southern California promotions EPIC WAR and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla.

They circle each other for a bit and Joe grabs a rear waistlock.   Joe takes Dragon down and knees him in the head a few times.  Joe brings Dragon up and gives him a forearm shot.  Dragon responds with one of his own.  Then Joe gives Dragon one.  They exchange forearm shots.   Dragon wins that exchange but Joe takes him down with a punch.  Dragon retreats to the corner but Joe catches him with an uppercut.  Joe chops Dragon and whips him across.  Joe charges in but Dragon stops him with a boot to the face.  Dragon jumps off the second turnbuckle and hits a forward roll rana.   Joe tries a rolling kick but Dragon gets out of the way.  Dragon gets a double underhook hold.   Joe makes it to the ropes.  Joe and Dragon exchange chops until Dragon gets a drop toehold.   Dragon gets a La Majistral cradle for a 2 count.   Dragon brings Joe up in the corner and chops away at him.  Dragon whips Joe into the opposite corner and charges in but Joe catches him in midair with an Uranage.  Joe covers and gets 2.  Joe snapmares Dragon and gives him a chop to the back.  Joe goes for a kick but Dragon catches Joe's leg to stop it.   Dragon takes Joe down with a legsweep.  Dragon ties up Joe's legs and looks to be going for a Curb Stomp but Joe escapes and kicks Dragon in the head.  Joe chops and kicks Dragon and runs off the ropes and delivers a knee drop to the head.  All that gets 2.   Joe applies a Camel Clutch.  Dragon tries to get up and Joe sits down on his back.   Again.  Joe tries a third time but Dragon rolls onto his back and Joe lands on Dragon's knee, effectively low-blowing himself.  Dragon comes off the ropes but Joe catches him with a legsweep, sending Dragon out to the floor.  Joe goes out to the floor and a fan hands him a chair.  Joe sets Dragon in the chair and kicks him.  He then walks to the far end of the ring and runs and hits the ¡Olé! kick.  Joe drags Dragon to another end of the ring and sticks him in another chair.  Joe runs and hits another ¡Olé! kick.  Joe rolls Dragon back into the ring and follows.  Joe covers and gets 2.  Joe brings Dragon up to his feet and headbutts him.  Dragon comes back with a punch and Joe responds with one of his own.  Joe whips Dragon into the ropes and goes for a pop-up but Dragon dropkicks him, sending Joe out to the floor.  Dragon runs and hits a senton suicida through the top and middle ropes!  Dragon brings Joe up and rolls him back into the ring.   Dragon springboards off the top rope and hits a flying kick to the back of Joe's head.  Dragon covers and gets 2.  Dragon tries to whip Joe out of the corner but Joe reverses it and Joe charges in but Dragon hits him with a back elbow.  Dragon comes off the second turnbuckle but Joe catches him in a fireman's carry and hits a Death Valley Driver.  It gets 2.   Joe sets Dragon up for either a piledriver or a power bomb but Dragon blocks it.  Joe gives Dragon several kicks to the head.  Joe goes for the move again with no luck.  Joe gives Dragon some knees to the head.  Joe goes for the power bomb and gets it for a 2 count.  Dragon gets a jumping Enzuigiri.  Joe is down and crawling to the corner and Dragon comes off the top with a double stomp.  Dragon rolls Joe onto his back and goes for the cover and gets 2.  Dragon comes off the ropes and Joe catches him with a powerslam for 2.  Joe follows that with multiple kicks right to the head.  Joe brings Dragon up and sets him up on the top turnbuckle and hits the Muscle Buster for the pin.  ****

Excellent hard-hitting match, which is what you would expect from these two.  Recommended and you can watch it here.
