The Flying Hammerlock Video Review #45: Mercedes Vs. Mia

Mercedes regained the title from "The Rate Tank" Kellie Skater at SHIMMER Volume 90 on November 13, 2016 and this was her seventh defense.  Xtreme Intense Championship Wrestling is a promotion founded by Detroit legends "Sweet Daddy" Malcolm Monroe (RIP) and The DBA (Malcolm Monroe Jr.) in 2000 and is still running today.  This was the opening match, both ladies' XICW debuts and the only match Mia ever had in XICW. (Mercedes had two XICW matches subsequent to this.)
 

They circle each other and Mia offers a handshake and Mercedes accepts.  They tie up and Mia grabs a side headlock.   Mercedes escapes and applies a headlock of her own.  Mia escapes that and grabs a hammerlock.  Mercedes gets her own hammerlock and goes back to the side headlock.  Mercedes gives Mia a quick noogie and goes back to the headlock.  Mia gets another headlock into a takedown.  Both ladies get to their feet and Mercedes grabs a wristlock.  Then an arm wringer, back to the wristlock and a headlock takedown.  Mia counters with a headscissors.  Mercedes bounces around to escape and slaps Mia in the face.  Mercedes slaps Mia two more times and backs her up against the ropes.  Mercedes chops Mia.  Into the corner and Mercedes hits Mia with some big elbows.  Then an European Uppercut.   Then a shot to the face.  Mercedes pulls Mia into the middle of the ring and hits a big hanging vertical suplex for 2.  Back into the corner, Mercedes hits Mia with a chop and another Uppercut.  Mercedes charges in but Mia gets up and locks Mercedes in the Tarantula!   She can't win the title that way, of course, so she has to release the hold.  Mia climbs to the second turnbuckle and hits a dropkick.  Mia tries for a bodyscissors but Mercedes turns it into a wheelbarrow suplex.   It only gets 1.  Mercedes slows things down with a chinlock but with her knee against Mia's back.  She varies it by digging into Mia's mouth.   Mercedes gives Mia several punches to the chest.  All that gets 2.  Mercedes is up first and asks rhetorically, "Who's the Champion?"   Mercedes brings Mia up and punches her and backs her into the corner.   Mercedes gives Mia some hard strikes and a big chop to the chest.  Into another corner and Mercedes hits Mia with an Uppercut.   Mercedes backs up then charges in with a forearm.  Mercedes charges in with a big kick but Mia gets out of the way.  Mia charges in and catches Mercedes with a boot to the face.  Then a cannonball senton in the corner.   Mia drags Mercedes into the middle and folds her up for a pin but only gets 2.  Mia goes for a vertical suplex but Mercedes escapes and pushes Mia into the ropes.  Mia ducks Mercedes' clothesline and hits a German Suplex for 2.  Mia brings Mercedes up but Mercedes gets in some strikes and goes for a kick but Mia catches the leg and lifts Mercedes and hits a sitout powerbomb!   It only gets 2!  Mia positions Mercedes and climbs up and goes for a top rope double stomp but Mercedes rolls out of the way.  Mercedes gets up in the corner but Mia runs in and catches her with a big kick.  Mia pulls Mercedes up and chops her.  Mia charges in but Mercedes catches her and sits her on the top turnbuckle.  Then some shots to the chest and the face.  Mercedes runs in and catches Mia with a big kick of her own.  Mercedes grabs Mia's head and hits her with a top rope Diamond Cutter!  It gets 2!  Mercedes is shocked and argues with referee Brian Gorie.   Mercedes goes for the Fisherman's Buster, her finisher, but Mia blocks it.  Mia escapes and hits Gail Kim's Eat Defeat/Chuck Taylor's Sole Food.  Mia folds Mercedes up for the pin but Mercedes is in the ropes.   Mia sets up Mercedes for the Package Piledriver but Mercedes back drops out of it.  Mercedes runs out of the corner with a big boot and hits the Fisherman's Buster for the pin to retain.  ****
