The Flying Hammerlock Video Review #36: Heidi The Riveter Vs. Thunderkitty
Heidi The Riveter (Heidi Lovelace) vs. Thunderkitty, Olde Wrestling Speakeasy Spectacular 2014, Mahall's, Lakewood, OH, August 1, 2014.
This was Heidi's Olde Wrestling debut and only their second show. Thunderkitty's gimmick is a throwback to old school women wrestlers (think Moolah) and she's used it in a variety of promotions, not just here.
We start with a posedown, as the ladies show off their arms. They circle each other a few times and Thunderkitty extends her hand for a handshake. Heidi slaps the hand away, establishing herself as the heel. They tie up in the middle of the ring and Heidi powers Thunderkitty into the corner and grabs a handful of hair. The referee starts counting and Heidi breaks at 3, then shoves Thunder. They circle each other again and tie up again and Thunder grabs Heidi's arm for an arm wringer, which the commentator calls a wrist twist. Again. Again. Heidi does a flip to try to escape but Thunderkitty holds on and applies an armbar to the seated Heidi. Heidi gets up and again grabs Thunderkitty's hair. Thunderkitty escapes and grabs a side headlock. Heidi stomps on Thunderkitty's foot and grabs an armbar of her own. Thunderkitty escapes that and goes back to the wristlock. Then a go-behind into a schoolgirl rollup for 2. Heidi responds with a drop toehold and a rolling cradle for 2. They both get up and Thunderkitty poses again as the crowd chants for her. They circle each other and Heidi raises her hand for a test of strength and Thunderkitty obliges. Thunderkitty powers Heidi down. Heidi gets up and kicks Thunderkitty's hand away and goes for another kick but Thunderkitty avoids it, gets behind Heidi and flips Heidi forward. Thunderkitty walks over to Heidi but Heidi kicks her away and gets back to her feet. Heidi whips Thunderkitty off the ropes and sets up for a back body drop but Thunderkitty hits a sunset flip instead for 2. Heidi turns that into a pin for 2, and they go back and forth for a bit. Heidi tries to get up but Thunderkitty kicks her in the shoulder. Thunderkitty whips Heidi across the ring but Heidi stops and catches herself when she gets to the ropes. Thunderkitty charges at Heidi but Heidi grabs her and whips Thunderkitty backwards. Heidi charges and they fight over a backslide and Thunderkitty gets it for a 2 count. Heidi is still down and Thunderkitty grabs a sleeper hold. Heidi grabs Thunderkitty's legs to escape and applies a single-leg Boston Crab. Thunderkitty gets to the ropes. Heidi tries to whip Thunderkitty off the ropes but Thunderkitty holds on to the top rope. Heidi punches Thunderkitty in the mouth to get her to release the grasp on the rope. A whip and Thunderkitty hits Heidi with a Back Suplex, a rarely seen move in this timeline. Heidi is seen begging off from Thunderkitty as the commentator talks about how that move could end someone's career. Heidi offers a handshake. Thunderkitty walks over and Heidi shoves her face first into the corner. Then Heidi hits a Saito Suplex, though it's also called a Back Suplex here. It also gets 2! Heidi is shocked that she didn't get the pin and argues with the referee. Thunderkitty gets up and does a go-behind then a reversal by Heidi then a reversal by Thunderkitty then a reversal by Heidi. Heidi forces Thunderkitty into the ropes and gets an O'Connor Roll for a 2 count. Thunderkitty applies a bodyscissors and rolls over into a pin for the 3 count! ***1/2.
This was the usual fun from this promotion. Recommended and you can watch it here.
