The Flying Hammerlock Video Review #29: Bruiser Vs. Butcher

This review is dedicated to the memories of Frank "Bruiser Brody" Goodish and Gary "Playboy Gary Hart" Williams.  R.I.P.

Bruiser Brody vs. "The Madman from The Sudan" Abdullah The Butcher (w/"Playboy" Gary Hart), World Class Championship Wrestling, The Will Rogers Coliseum, Fort Worth, TX, August 23, 1986 (taped August 4th.)

This was another match in their long feud that stretched across several promotions.

Brody enters the ring and begins punching away on Abby.  Abby responds with some punches of his own.  Abby headbutts Brody, sending him staggering.  Brody hits Abby with a big boot.  Then some more kicks.  Then a big kick to knock Abby down.  Brody runs off the ropes and stomps on Abby's head.  Again.  Brody stomps Abby again and Abby, of course, is busted open.  Abby gets up to all fours and Brody is still stomping him.  Abby is on the apron in between the ropes and Brody continues to stomp him.  Brody sends Abby to the floor.  Brody exits the ring and grabs the house mic and referee David Manning tries to get it away from him.  Meanwhile, Abby has obtained his trusty foreign object.  Brody makes his way over to Abby and Abby stabs Brody in the head with the object.  Abby brings Brody to his feet and stabs Brody again, with the object in full view of the camera.  Hart argues on the apron with Manning while Abby stabs Brody a third time, and Brody is bleeding.  Brody is shaking on the mat.  Abby brings Brody to his feet a second time and stabs him in the head yet again.  More Hart-Manning arguing and Abby stabs Brody AGAIN.  Brody is lying on the top rope and Abby walks over and repeatedly headbutts Brody, bringing Brody down to the mat.  Manning is trying to pull Abby off of Brody and Abby turns to the side so Manning won't see him stab Brody with the object again.  Brody staggers to his feet and Abby headbutts him in the corner.  Brody staggers around the ring and stops in the opposite corner.  Abby headbutts Brody's side.  Abby headbutts Brody's head and Brody staggers around some more.  Brody kicks Abby in the gut.  Again.  Then a big knee strike.  Some more kicks and Abby responds with a shot to the throat.  Brody staggers around but comes back with a big boot and some more shots, leaving Abby flat on his back on the canvas.  Hart tells Abby something and Abby rolls out to the floor.  The camera catches Brody on the floor grabbing a chair.   Brody nails Abby with the chair.  Abby grabs Brody by the throat and they brawl into the crowd.   They fight their way through the crowd until they get to a big open door and go inside and close the door.  Hart guards the door and argues with Manning until the door opens, knocking Hart down.  Brody and Abby come out and start brawling their way back to the ring again with Brody holding a 2X4 as a weapon.   They get back to the ring and the bell rings.  They get back into the ring and Brody nails Abby with the 2X4, knocking him down to the mat.  Brody stands over Abby and hits him repeatedly with the 2X4.  Brody chokes Abby with the 2X4 as Manning tries to take it away from him.  Some more shots with the board and more choking.  Hart enters the ring with a chair and nails Brody with it.  Hart nails Brody with the chair again.  Abby has recovered and is holding the board and Hart signals Abby to hit Brody with it and Abby obliges.  Abby beats up Brody with the board until The Batten Twins (Bart and Brad) run in to make the save but get intercepted by Hart and Abby.  Abby rolls Brody to the floor and Hart throws a chair at a ring crew guy.   Some crew guys help Brody to the back as a double-disqualification decision is announced.  This was the usual fun brawl between these two.  ***1/2.

You don't go into a Brody vs. Abby match looking for lots of scientific moves.  You go into it for blood and violence and that's exactly what they delivered.   Recommended and you can watch it here.
