The Flying Hammerlock Video Review #26: Battle of the Sexes

"The She-Wolf" Hania The Howling Huntress vs. Colin Delaney, AIW Battle of the Sexes, Turners Hall, Cleveland, OH, July 26, 2014.

No backstory here, just a match on a night of intergender wrestling.

Colin is introduced as "The Extremely Cute Wrestler", a play on his time in WWE's ECW.   They circle each other and tie up in the middle and Colin gets control over Hania's wrist.   Colin turns it into an arm wringer but Hania rolls on the mat and does a standing flip and grabs Colin's wrist.  Colin reverses THAT and takes control again.  Hania flips out and grabs a wristlock of her own.  Colin rolls around to get out of the hold and gets control but Hania counters that with a lucha-style armdrag.  Hania charges in but Colin trips her up and goes for the leg but Hania turns it into a whirlybird headscissors, sending Colin into the corner.  Hania charges in and lands on the second turnbuckle, leaps off and armdrags Colin again as commentator Aaron Bauer puts over the match.  Colin goes out to the floor but Hania charges over and kicks Colin through the ropes.  Hania rolls Colin back into the ring and starts to climb up the turnbuckles and howls.  Hania gets to the top and jumps over Colin who is standing.   Colin armdrags Hania.  Colin whips Hania but Hania reverses it and Colin jumps off the second rope and armdrags Hania.   Keep in mind that all of that action has taken place during the first two minutes or so of the match.  Hania rolls out to the floor to catch her breath.  Colin runs to the ropes and dives out onto Hania.  Colin grabs Hania by the hair and rolls her back into the ring and follows.  Hania goes out to the apron and tries flipping back into the ring but Colin catches her and they mess up what looked to be a powerbomb spot, but Colin rolls out to the floor.  Hania recovers, howls and climbs up to the top turnbuckle and dives off onto Colin on the floor.  Colin recovers first and gets back in the ring.  Hania gets up on the apron but Colin dropkicks her back to the floor.  Colin flies off the top but Hania gets out of the way and Colin crash lands.  Hania, with some effort, lifts up Colin and rolls him back into the ring.  Hania covers and gets 2.  Hania covers again and gets 2 again.  Colin goes to the corner and Hania unleashes her kicks.  Hania pulls Colin into the middle of the ring and covers and gets 2.  Hania hits Colin with a double boot to the chest.  Hania stands up, howls and hits a flipping senton for 2.  Back up, and Hania unleashes more kicks to Colin.  Colin comes back with a couple of chops but Hania dropkicks him.  It gets 2.  Colin tells Hania "Come on" and Hania kicks him again and covers for 2.  Colin starts getting up and Hania kicks him and it has no real effect on him.  Colin delivers some shots to Hania's midsection.  Colin tries again but Hania does a legsweep.  Colin gets up, grabs Hania and gives her a boot right upside the head.  Both are down and the referee starts the count.  They both get up and Hania goes for a kick but Colin blocks it, turns Hania around and rolls her up for a 2 count.  Hania gets up and Colin knocks her down, then again.  Colin whips Hania off the ropes, Hania reverses but Colin hits a Five-Arm (forearm smash variation) for 2.  Colin grabs Hania's wrists and holds her down for a 2 count.  Again.  A third time and Hania bridges up to break the count.  Colin gets on top but Hania holds onto the bridge.  They get up and Hania hits a Monkey Flip on Colin.  Both wrestlers down but holding onto each other's hands.  The ref starts to count but they get their shoulders up in time a couple of times.   They get back up with Colin still holding onto Hania's wrists.  They stand back-to-back and Colin flips Hania over and drives his knees into her chest.  It gets 2.  Colin brings Hania up and pushes her into the corner.  Colin charges in but Hania gets out of the way but Colin kips up and lands on his feet.  Hania kicks Colin in the back of his head.  He looks like he is going to fall but stops himself and hooks an inside cradle for a 2 count.  Hania gets up and delivers a big kick to the top of Colin's head.  It gets 2.  Hania whips Colin out of the corner but Colin reverses it and sends Hania into the corner and charges in but Hania gets her boot up to stop him.  Hania grabs Colin's wrist and whips him into a corner but Colin responds with an elbow and a forearm and sends Hania into the corner but she climbs to the second turnbuckle and hits a back kick.  She climbs up top and hits her moonsault press for the pin!  ***1/2.

Fun match, they worked well together for a first-ever, one-time match. (For the record, the women won the night 5-4.)  Recommended and you can watch it here.
